The often-cited trade-off is a false one. Ventilation can work well without any fabric infiltration, and once effective ventilation is in place, improving the fabric airtightness is unproblematic and indeed desirable, and will lead to increasing comfort, energy efficiency – and possibly even to more effective ventilation (because there is more control over air paths)….
